Small World

By Jessie Hartland, 2016

Writer and illustrator Jessie Hartland recently curated a Dollhouse Show and was inspired by the the microcosm of miniature worlds.  For her MTA commission, Hartland wanted to capture memories of childhood play and includes historic New York City architectural landmarks and some beloved gems from the past, notably the old Penn Station, Klein’s Department store and the World Trade Center featuring the high-wire by aerialist Philippe Petit.

Jessie Hartland lives and works in New York City.  She has painted murals at a Japanese amusement park, designed Christmas windows for Bloomingdale’s and illustrated ceramics, books, fabrics, watches and all sorts of other things. She has also written and illustrated many picture books for children, most notably “Bon Appetit: the Delicious Life of Julia Child”. http://jessiehartland.com/
