Vignelli 1972 Map Watch
These watches are hand crafted from various sections taken from an authentic Vignelli Subway Map used in the NY Subway system from 1972 - 1979. These visual subway diagrams have become iconic in and of themselves, now part of the NY MOMA collection.

Italian cognac leather strap with contrast stitching. Mineral crystal, battery operated Swiss movement. Polished stainless steel case back engraved 1972 – 1979 Vignelli NYC Subway Map with Massimo Vignelli signature engraving. Each watch comes gift-boxed with a certificate of authenticity. One year warranty from date of purchase.
Watches have a 40mm stainless steel bezel. Durable leather strap measures 197mm (approx. 7-3/4"), standard for most wrists.

What's The Story
| Massimo Vignelli's subway diagram is a hallmark of modernist elegance, distilling New York's huge, complicated transit system into a sequence of straight lines, rainbow colors and black dots. New York City's offical subway map from 1972 to 1979, the diagram remains iconic in the design world. In 2011, it was repurposed for the digital age, serving as the basis for the MTA Weekender app and website. Not only responsible for the map, Vignelli also established the graphic standards still used today throughout the subway system. |
